Programs, Presentations, and Workshops for Institutions

My prepared programs and presentations include the following:

  • Dissertation Institute / Bootcamp: In this 5-day on-site program for up to 25 doctoral students, I provide all participants with a detailed pre-questionnaire, and meet with each participant twice during the week for thirty-minute writing consultation sessions (up to 50 sessions/week). Upon request, I can also lead mini-workshops on various aspects of the dissertation writing process, including introductions, literature reviews, results, and discussions/conclusions.
  • Presentation on moving from academia into (a) entrepreneurship or (b) writing and editing careers: In this 1-hour presentation, I share my own career narrative, distill tips and principles for other Ph.D.s considering the move from academic to other career paths, and open for Q&A from participants.
  • Workshop on Transferable Skills for PhDs: In this 3-hour on-site program for an unlimited number of doctoral students or postdocs, I lead a hands-on workshop in which participants inventory their transferable skills and begin translating them into a flexible narrative for career transition. This workshop is based on a webinar I created for Karen Kelsky of The Professor is In in 2014 and on Chapter 60 of her book The Professor is In, which I contributed.

In addition to the above, I am available to speak on Ph.D. career diversity panels in the Research Triangle area.

I'm also happy to discuss options for customized presentations and programs for your institution.
